The engagement in AD009 lasted just six seconds, but it was long enough for Unaligned attackers to claim a prized Gila flown by Brave Collective's Pavel Checkov of Council of Exiles. The loss was not just the ship itself: the total event carried a value of 4.5 billion ISK, with the Gila accounting for the most significant prize of the exchange.
THE BREAK
The final blow came from an attacker identified only as Unknown attacker flying an Unstable Abyssal Depths. With only two pilots recorded on each side, the encounter appears to have been a tight interception rather than a broad fleet clash. That kind of fight leaves little room for error, and the Gila did not survive long enough to recover once the trap closed.
THE LOSSES
The Gila's fit suggests a vessel carrying a serious amount of combat value, with large quantities of missiles, Triglavian Survey Database entries, and other ammunition either dropped or destroyed in the wreck. The ship alone accounted for 2.5 billion ISK in value, while the capsule was also lost in the aftermath, underlining how little chance there was of escaping once the attack landed.
WHY IT MATTERS
Single-ship losses of this size tend to resonate well beyond the system where they happen. Even without a larger battle around it, the destruction of a heavily fitted Gila is the kind of incident that reminds pilots that expensive ships remain vulnerable whenever they are exposed, isolated, or caught at the wrong moment.
