Thanatos Falls to The Excommunicati in T-Q2DD Ambush

A Thanatos carrier worth 5.7 billion ISK was destroyed in T-Q2DD after The Excommunicati and allied pilots caught Insidious.’s KSaviier in a short but costly engagement. The kill ended with DHB WildCat of The Excommunicati landing the final blow in a Cenotaph, closing a hunt that drew 17 participants into the fight.

THE CATCH

The engagement in T-Q2DD appears to have turned on a high-value target being brought under pressure fast. Insidious.’s Thanatos, flown by KSaviier of Heart in Blood, was destroyed before it could escape the fight, leaving a 5.7 billion ISK wreck in the hands of the attackers. For a carrier, the margin for error is already thin; once the fight was joined, there was little room left to recover.

THE ATTACKERS CLOSE IN

The damage record suggests a coordinated strike rather than a stray encounter. The Excommunicati were the headline force on the field, with support also coming from pilots identified with D-sync., including Gideon Zendikar in a Typhoon and Mallore Aulmais in a Legion. DHB WildCat’s Cenotaph applied the final blow, but the pressure on the Thanatos clearly came from several directions at once, with 11 attackers credited in the destruction.

THE PRICE OF THE ESCAPE

The carrier did not go quietly. Among the losses and recovered cargo were large quantities of Oxygen Isotopes, a Gistum A-Type Multispectrum Shield Hardener, a Fighter Support Unit II, and a destroyed Damage Control II, hinting at a ship fitted for serious work and still unable to survive the attention it drew. Of the total value, 4.3 billion ISK was destroyed and 1.5 billion ISK was recovered, but the strategic and financial hit still lands hard on Insidious.

WHY IT MATTERS

Single-ship losses of this scale rarely read like routine traffic. A Thanatos is a major asset, and losing one in a contested system such as T-Q2DD will be felt far beyond the wreck itself. For The Excommunicati, the kill is a clear statement of reach and timing; for Insidious., it is an expensive reminder that even capital ships can be isolated and broken when the hunters arrive first.
