THE CATCH
The destruction of SchirmerN’s Paladin appears to have come from a focused hunt rather than a sprawling fleet battle. Invidia Gloriae Comes supplied the bulk of the pressure, with 13 attackers involved in the strike and a mix of fast, hard-hitting ships closing around the battleship in HHK-VL. What might have started as a brief encounter quickly turned into a costly trap for the Northern Coalition. pilot.
THE PRESSURE BUILDS
The damage profile suggests the Paladin was worked over from several angles. Two Caracal Navy Issue pilots led the attack, while a Malediction, a Brutix Navy Issue, and a Retribution added to the damage and likely helped keep the target from slipping free. The fight ended with westme1on landing the final blow in a Caracal Navy Issue, but the broader story is the control the attackers appear to have maintained once the Paladin was exposed.
THE LOSSES
The Paladin was carrying a substantial amount of fittings and ammunition, and only part of that value made it out. Of the 3.6 billion ISK tied to the ship, 2.8 billion ISK was destroyed and 820.1 million ISK dropped. Among the items lost outright were Nanite Repair Paste, Warrior SW-300 drones, and Imperial Navy ammunition, while Navy Cap Booster 800 charges and Imperial Navy Radio L rounds were among the cargo recovered by the attackers.
WHY IT MATTERS
For Northern Coalition., the loss of a Paladin is more than a routine ship kill. Marauder losses are expensive by themselves; when they are caught in a small, disciplined engagement, they also underline how vulnerable even a heavily armed battleship can be once it is isolated. In HHK-VL, Invidia Gloriae Comes appears to have found exactly that opening and turned it into a memorable prize.
