THE CATCH
The fight in J142822 was over almost as soon as it began, but it was not a clean one. Nine pilots were tied to the engagement, suggesting a compact but chaotic clash inside wormhole space rather than a prolonged fleet action. At the centre of it was a Paladin, one of New Eden’s most dangerous and expensive Marauders, now brought down in circumstances that left little room for recovery.
THE PRESSURE BUILDS
The attacker list points to a mixed picture around the wreck: 10 Minutes' Notice is credited alongside unaligned attackers, while Ranger Regiment also appears among the ships applying damage. That mix suggests the Paladin was not facing a single simple tackle, but a situation in which the target was exposed long enough for several pilots to converge and keep pressure on it. By the time the decisive damage landed, the ship was already deep into a losing exchange.
THE BREAK
Zeros Beta’s Kikimora secured the final blow, but the killing damage was spread across several ships, including another Kikimora flown by Zeros Gamma and a Vargur flown by Clavi115. The Paladin’s fittings tell the same story: Conflagration L, Scorch L, Imperial Navy Multifrequency L and Federation Navy Hobgoblins were all on board, and much of that equipment was destroyed with the hull. The loss also claimed 601 units of Nanite Repair Paste, underlining how little of the ship’s combat readiness survived the engagement.
THE COST
The destruction left 1.4 billion ISK in losses and only 490.1 million ISK in loot recovered, making this far more than a routine Marauder kill. For The Black Shores and pilot BobaYaga, the result is a sharp and immediate setback in one of New Eden’s most unforgiving arenas: wormhole space, where a costly ship can vanish before help has time to arrive. In a region built on uncertainty, J142822 delivered a reminder that even a Paladin is only as safe as the window of time around it.
