THE HUNT CLOSES
The fight in Venilen was brief, but it was not casual. Eighteen participants were drawn into the engagement, with Aegis Industrial Movings accounting for the attackers on one side and Feifei318 GeTiHu on the other. At the center of it was a Paladin, one of New Eden’s most punishing Marauders when left unchecked, now reduced to a single, expensive target under pressure.
THE FINAL BLOW
The ship was finished by Firestorm Zero in a Hound, a covert frigate that rarely stands in the spotlight when a heavyweight hull goes down. The final strike is the visible moment, but the damage tally suggests the Paladin had already been worn down by a mix of torpedoes and bomber fire before the coup de grâce landed. With an attack force of nine credited against the target, the result points to a disciplined catch rather than a lucky shot.
A COSTLY LOSS
The Paladin’s destruction erased about 1.6 billion ISK in hull and fittings, while another 770.6 million ISK reportedly dropped from the wreck. Not everything was lost: some ammunition and tags survived the blast, but the ship itself—and the expensive field gear that came with it—did not. Among the destroyed stores were large stocks of Conflagration L and Scorch L, underscoring that this was a properly armed combat platform, not a stranded shell.
WHY IT MATTERS
For a single ship loss, the price tag is enough to make the kill stand out on its own. But the composition of the attackers matters too: a Paladin caught by a small, mixed force of bombers and covert hunters can signal how dangerous even a short stopover in Venilen can become. In New Eden, the difference between a routine jump and a headline loss is often measured in seconds, and this one appears to have been enough to trap a Marauder before it could turn the tables.
