THE CATCH

The fight in Ladistier appears to have been brief but decisive: 13 pilots were tied to the engagement, and Black Rabbit. emerged with the upper hand against a Shadow Cartel Nightmare flown by Jango Revas of Ain't Misbehaving. The battleship alone accounted for almost all of the value on the field, making it the clear prize once the engagement turned against it.

THE BREAK

Jakkalas in a Caracal Navy Issue secured the final blow after 26,437 damage, with Johny Quango's Catalyst Navy Issue and Kiramati's Flycatcher also contributing to the takedown. The Nightmare's fitting suggests it was armed for serious work rather than a routine patrol, with Imperial Navy ammunition and Aurora L among the items caught in the wreckage or destroyed in the strike.

THE LOSSES

The ship was valued at 1.2 billion ISK, with 1.1 billion ISK destroyed and only 67.1 million ISK recovered. That leaves the Nightmare as the story's centrepiece: expensive, exposed, and unable to survive long enough for the fight to turn back in its favor. Even the celebration firework aboard survived in quantity, but much of the combat stock did not.

WHY IT MATTERS

For Black Rabbit., the kill is a clean and costly-looking prize taken in a short local engagement. For Shadow Cartel, it is the sort of loss that stings because it is both immediate and visible: a heavy battleship gone in a fight that appears to have offered no escape. In New Eden, that kind of destruction can do more than remove a hull — it reminds everyone nearby who can still turn a fleeting opening into a kill.

That is not a skirmish somebody stumbled into. That is a decision, made over and over, for the better part of four hours.
