The loss appears to have come at the hands of a lone attacker flying an Unstable Abyssal Depths, turning a small encounter into a very expensive mistake.

THE CATCH

The engagement in AD086 was over almost as soon as it began. Two participants met in the system, and the balance of the encounter quickly tilted against Bear Maulerant’s Ishtar. What might have been a routine passage through hostile space instead became a trap that closed fast, leaving little room for a clean escape.

THE LOSS

The Ishtar was the centerpiece of the destruction, valued at 2.5 billion ISK before the final blow landed. Most of that value was recovered in dropped loot, but the ship itself was still torn apart in the exchange. The final blow is recorded from an unknown attacker flying an Unstable Abyssal Depths, suggesting a carefully timed strike from an unusual ship fit or environment-modified hull.

THE AFTERMATH
