The engagement in Muvolailen was brief, but it ended with a high-value cruiser stripped of its chance to get away. Yuko Ichikawa’s Gila was destroyed in a fight that involved seven participants overall, with Safety. accounting for the winning side of the exchange. For a ship built to stay dangerous while staying alive, the Gila appears to have been caught at exactly the wrong moment.
THE ATTACKERS CLOSE IN
The striking force was small but sharp. Four attackers are tied directly to the loss, all flying Catalysts under the Safety. banner, with Zombi 2020, 28 Days Aulmais, 4 Weeks Aulmais, and Chris Pandora doing the bulk of the damage. The final blow came from Zombi 2020, whose Catalyst finished the target after the rest of the gang had already pushed the fight past the point of recovery.
THE PRICE OF THE ESCAPE
The wreckage tells its own story. More than 1.1 billion ISK in the ship and fittings were destroyed, while 228.4 million ISK worth of material was recovered from the field. Among the items lost or scattered were large stocks of Fury light missiles and a Triglavian Survey Database, while Zero-Point Condensate was among the things burned up with the hull. For a cruiser of this class, the damage suggests a loadout meant to travel armed and ready, not to be dismantled under fire.
WHY IT MATTERS
At this scale, the loss is less about a fleet collision than about one expensive mistake becoming very visible very quickly. A Gila is never an inconsequential kill, and a 1.4 billion ISK destruction in a single engagement is enough to register well beyond Muvolailen. For Safety., it was a clean prize taken in a fast hunt; for New First Step, it was a reminder that even one cruiser can turn into a major loss when the trap closes first.
