Brave Newbies Killed 32 Ships in Catch and Lost 13 of Their Own

At 20:51 UTC, the first confirmed loss in HY-RWO was a Rokh belonging to The Dark Vanguard - a battleship, and therefore a fairly expensive way to open an evening. Sixty-five minutes later, the last wreck on the board was a Malediction flown by Th3 Hav3n: an interceptor, and a rounding error next to the hardware that had been melting around it. Between those two bookends, 1,662 pilots put 239 hulls and roughly 179 billion ISK through a single Catch system, and did it without losing a capital ship.

A Rokh to Start, and Rokhs in Bulk

The Dark Vanguard's Rokh was not a lonely tragedy. By the time the shooting stopped, losses of that hull type alone came to roughly 42 billion ISK - the second-largest single-hull total of the whole engagement, which is a fair sign that the Rokh was not an isolated visitor to HY-RWO. It was beaten only by the Drake Navy Issue, at about 42.8 billion. That is worth a moment's thought. The Rokh is the larger, more valuable hull; the Drake Navy Issue is a battlecruiser, a full size class below it. When the smaller ship produces the bigger loss total, the interesting number is not the hull at all - it is whatever the owner bolted onto it. The Apocalypse contributed another 19.1 billion and the Scorpion 16.5 billion. Four subcapital hull types, 120 billion ISK of a 179 billion ISK fight. Nobody brought anything with a jump drive.

Two Hundred and Thirty-Nine Wrecks in Sixty-Five Minutes

The pace gives the fight away. Two hundred and thirty-nine confirmed losses in sixty-five minutes works out at roughly one wreck every sixteen seconds, and against a total of 179 billion ISK the average loss lands near 750 million. That is less a battle than a production line. The shape of it matters as much as the speed. Some 1,662 unique pilots were involved, spread across enough organisations that the killboard reads less like two fleets exchanging polite volleys and more like a rolling, multi-sided brawl that kept finding new participants as word got around. There is no structure on the loss list and no capital ship either. Whatever HY-RWO was being fought over, it was settled entirely in subcapitals - and settled hard.

Brave Newbies Did Both Jobs

The organisation lists have a symmetry to them. Brave Newbies Inc. tops the attacker table with 32 kills, and turns up again on the victim side with 13 losses of their own. Hounds Of Haides manage the same trick at smaller scale: 10 kills, 7 losses. Appearing on both sides of a ledger is not proof these two were shooting each other; it means they were in the middle of something large enough to be doing damage and taking it in the same hour. Behind Brave Newbies on the kill side came Dead's Prostitutes with 12, Baba Yagas with 9 and Voices of War - Research and Production with 8. On the receiving end, The Graduates took the heaviest individual beating with 16 losses, followed by TEMPLAR. on 14 and The New Federation on 13. Add the Brave and Hounds losses and the five worst-hit organisations account for more than sixty wrecks between them.

Cheap Hulls, Very Expensive Wrecks

It is worth being clear about what did not die in HY-RWO. No Titans. No supercarriers, no dreadnoughts, not even a structure. Every one of those 179 billion ISK belonged to subcapital hulls, and that is precisely what makes the total interesting. A Drake Navy Issue is a battlecruiser, and by the standards of New Eden's big ships it is not where the money lives. Yet losses of that type came to 42.8 billion ISK. The Scorpion, the least glamorous entry on the notable-hulls list, still accounts for 16.5 billion. When a hull is cheap and the loss total is not, the bill is being paid by modules, rigs and fittings - the parts of a ship that do not survive the explosion, and are not insured anywhere near their real cost. That is how a fight with no capitals in it reaches 179 billion. Nobody gambled a Titan. A great many people gambled a very well-equipped battleship, and lost.

It Ended With an Interceptor

The last confirmed loss landed at 21:56 UTC: Th3 Hav3n's Malediction, an interceptor and comfortably the cheapest thing on the board. There is something almost tidy about the bookends - an hour that opened with a battleship and closed with a ship built for speed rather than survival. On the damage side, one name stands out from the wreckage: Low Fat Turkey topped the charts for the engagement, the pilot most responsible for turning hulls into kills. What it means strategically is harder to read. No structures fell, no capitals died, and the system itself is exactly where it was. Catch has seen worse and will again. But 179 billion ISK across sixty-five minutes works out at close to 2.75 billion ISK destroyed per minute, and for the pilots who undocked into HY-RWO and finished the evening in a capsule, that particular hour will not need any interpretation at all.

1,662 Pilots, 237 Wrecks and Not One Capital: HY-RWO Grinds Out 177 Billion ISK

At 20:51 UTC a Rokh belonging to The Dark Vanguard came apart in HY-RWO, and the system did not get quieter for another sixty-five minutes. By the time the record closes at 21:56 with a Malediction flown by Th3 Hav3n, 237 ships have been destroyed, roughly 177 billion ISK has left the economy in small pieces, and something in the region of 1,662 pilots have taken part in a single system in Catch. What makes the ledger interesting is what is missing from it. No dreadnoughts. No carriers. No Titans. Not a single structure. Just an hour of subcapital violence, delivered at a rate of one wreck every sixteen seconds.

A 42 Billion ISK Drake Navy Issue Headlined a Nineteen-Minute, 163 Billion ISK Brawl in Catch

The most expensive ship to die in HY-RWO was a Drake Navy Issue, which should not be possible. A Drake Navy Issue is a battlecruiser - a sturdy, mass-produced missile platform, not a status symbol - and yet this one went down worth more than 42 billion ISK. It was not alone in its extravagance. A Rokh, an Apocalypse and a Scorpion carried another 73 billion ISK between them into the same nineteen-minute window in Catch, meaning four ships accounted for roughly seventy percent of everything destroyed in a fight involving more than 1,600 pilots.

ChuangShi Lost 70 Ships in P-ZMZV and Kept Shooting Back

The first confirmed loss in P-ZMZV wasn't a ship. It was a capsule - a pilot already out of their hull, already running, and not fast enough. Eighty-five minutes and 186 wrecks later, the last loss on the board was a capsule too. In between, more than a thousand pilots turned a structure fight in Querious into a 126 billion ISK argument that nobody walked away from cleanly.

Scan Stakan Lost 94 Ships and Still Landed 45 Kills

Thirty-five minutes in F-5WYK left 183 wrecks, four dead capitals and a bill of 163.5 billion ISK. The most striking number of the day, though, sits in the loss column: Scan Stakan lost 94 ships - and killed 45 more on the way down.
