248 Wrecks With ChuangShi's Name on Them
V-3U8T is not a system that makes the news on its own. Querious has seen plenty of traffic and a great many squabbles, and most of them stay small. Not this one. The engagement ran 187 minutes without really stopping, drew 1,611 unique pilots, and ended with 615 ships destroyed. WarBeacon files it as a capital battle, which is technically true and slightly generous: four capitals died, and no Titans or supercarriers were committed at all. What it actually was, was a grind - and one side took almost all of it. ChuangShi lost 248 ships, more than forty per cent of every hull destroyed in the system. Cosmic-Wanderers lost 54. Chuangshi College lost 48. On the other side of the ledger, the kill sheet credits Can't park there m8 with 84 kills, The Northerners with 76, 0ffline Corporation with 37 and Running with Dogs with 30. Nothing about that split is clean, though. ChuangShi also claimed 25 kills of its own, and both The Northerners and Can't park there m8 appear in the loss column as well. Nobody walked out of V-3U8T spotless.
Ninety-Nine Billion ISK of One Battleship
The single most expensive line on the loss sheet is the Typhoon Fleet Issue, the Republic's navy-issue battleship - fast for its size, shield-tanked, and the sort of hull a fleet brings when it intends to move across a grid rather than sit on it. Between them, the fleets in V-3U8T lost 98.7 billion ISK of them. That is not one unlucky pilot having a bad evening. That is a battleship doctrine being systematically taken apart over the course of several hours. The plain Typhoon, the older and cheaper Minmatar hull, added another 19.8 billion. Machariels - the Angel Cartel's fast battleship and the traditional ride of choice for a fleet that wants to dictate range - accounted for 31.5 billion more. Almost a hundred and twenty billion ISK in Typhoon variants alone, in a system officially hosting a capital engagement. The capitals may have drawn the classification, but the battleship line paid the bill.
Four Capitals, Four Structures, No Titans
Four capital hulls were destroyed. Nothing larger was committed, which tells you something about the shape of the fight: capitals were punctuation here, not the sentence. They appear on the field, they matter enormously while they are alive, and then somebody has to decide whether they are staying - and that decision is made under fire. Four structures also died during the three hours, which hints at how the time was actually spent. This was not a single clash that resolved and dispersed. It was a rolling engagement with objectives to chew through while the fleets were still on grid, which is precisely the kind of fight that produces a 187-minute duration and a loss count in the hundreds. One name sits at the top of the damage charts when it was all over: Operative Frost, credited as the fight's top damage dealer. A statistic that will follow them around corp comms for some time, wanted or otherwise.
Sixty-One Billion in Capsules Alone
Sixty point nine billion ISK of the V-3U8T wreckage was capsules. That figure explains a great deal about the rest. Pods do not die in those numbers unless pilots are being caught before they can warp clear, and a capsule is only expensive when the person inside was carrying implants worth more than the ship they had just lost. Both sides bled. The Northerners lost 39 ships while taking 76 kills - a ratio most alliances would sign for. Can't park there m8 lost 22 and claimed 84. ChuangShi claimed 25 kills against 248 losses, and if that reads badly, it should. Three hours in a system full of hostile ships, with capitals committed and every reason to expect the grid to keep filling, is not a fight anyone loses gracefully. It is a fight where a fleet finds out how long it can hold while somebody decides whether to keep feeding it or call the retreat. That decision had to be made repeatedly, by both sides, for the better part of an afternoon.
The Last Kill Was a Bounty Harvester
At 16:56, three hours and seven minutes after the first capsule died, the final confirmed loss of the engagement was a Mobile Sanguine Harvester belonging to The Northerners - a deployable whose entire purpose is to skim bounty income out of a system. After the battleships, the Machariels, the capitals and the pods, the shooting stopped with somebody clearing up the furniture. 331.6 billion ISK destroyed. 615 wrecks. 1,611 pilots. Four capitals and four structures gone from a system in Querious that most of New Eden had never heard of that morning. The number that will be remembered is ChuangShi's 248 - the sort of total that takes a while to replace, and longer to explain. In a region where the next fight is always one ping away, V-3U8T will be remembered best by the people who have to rebuild the hangar afterwards.
